PLAY is the brainchild of local Bahraini Sama Yateem, a mother herself and a licensed educator. Ms. Yateem was frustrated with the lack of indoor play areas that encourage creative play and set about to design her own center based on impressions she had gathered from various children’s museums and play centers in the US. “Studies show that play serves an important role in the emotional development of children so it is crucial that children are given the opportunity to express themselves in different ways,” Ms. Yateem explains. At a chance meeting on a play date with her two kids, Sama Yateem met Jann Flusche whom she later enlisted as her Business Manager. “Jann and I were on exactly the same page from day one and her support has been instrumental in getting the project up and rolling.” Together, the two mothers spent many hours researching various play facilities and brainstorming ideas to bring PLAY to life. SFS Bahrain was established in 2012 after feeling the need to get the parents of special children together and sharing our experiences for moral strengths. There are children with different abilities in the group; Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, Physical challenges, Hearing impairment, Learning disabilities, Vision loss, Speech disorders etc. We not only provide a platform for the families (Bahrainis and Expats alike) to get connected but also share our hopes, strengths and challenges. We share information on therapies, doctors, rehab centers, schools, shadow teachers & volunteers. The list of these services in Bahrain is circulated to whoever is in search of them. Our monthly activity based fun days are for the families to come and enjoy with their special needs children, their siblings, their friends, other families and volunteers; we consider everyone part of the SFS Family! We try to bring about awareness to general public through educational workshops and events in public places like the parks, malls, play areas, grocery stores, food courts etc. This encourages the society to learn about their unique qualities, to respect them and accept them the way they are. We also try to be the voice of every Special needs family in our group. If issues of concern need to be heard, they would know where to find support and encouragement. As long as there is SFS…..they are not alone! Other programmes of SFS: Buddy Programme: Students from main stream schools are encouraged to make a special needs friend. They are introduced by SFS keeping their interests in mind. This is incorporated with the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, a community service programme or at a completely personal level. The buddies get together over the weekends for an hour, spending the time helping, reading, sports etc. Helping the less fortunate special children If a child of a member is in need of specialized wheelchairs or other equipment, we raise funds to buy them their required aiding tools. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a special child independent & smiling. W need sponsors for this act of kindness. Vocational training/ Jobs: After the age of 15 years there in not much available for special needs teen and young adults. This situation has led us to finding vocational training programmes for them. We also try and find jobs for these young adults who are above the age of 18 years. We need support from everyone in this major task please!

Aimed at supporting children and their families with Down Syndrome. Fun filled activities in a safe, interactive and social envoironment. A place for parents to get together and share their experiences of their wonderful journey.

The Art House is a place where all aspects of art is touched. Whether it's to create your own masterpiece, activities for the children, a special gift for someone or learning a new art form, they offer something for one and all. Regular Workshops will be hosted throughout the month where you can learn something new. These are the Arts & Crafts workshops that they have: Mosaic, Painting, Batik, Shabb Chic, Clothing design, Jewelry Workshop, Ladies carpentry workshops, Recycle Art, Paper Mache, Lacing, Glass Painting, Dot Painting, Life Model drawing, and Charcoal Painting.

The British School of Bahrain's Academy of Performing Arts offers both group music classes/activities for all ages and individual lessons in most instruments. These are taught after school and on Saturdays. Classes are taught by music teachers from all over the world with an extensive background in both performing and teaching. The Academy also offers classes in speech and drama for 5-18 year olds where students have the opportunity to take LAMDA exams. For this September is the Academy's Dance School, led by our very own IDTA qualified teacher who will be training students in a wide variety of dance disciplines and working towards IDTA exams.

WATER SURVIVAL & SELF-RESCUE Coaching for: - Babies & Toddlers (up to 4 years old) - Children with Autism (up to 6 years old) Your child will learn how to self-rescue himself/herself by instinct every time he/she falls inside water.

Yellow Submarine is an exciting indoor adventure play area for children, from babies up to 12 years old, and is comprised of a large play area and party room. Activities day/timing: Lego World, daily from 10am to 6pm. Moms and Tots every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 for soft play, songs and snacks. BD3 per child including toys, snacks and songs. Entry included in yellow submarine 2-hour entry rate.
